ABOUT US

Our mission at Scissortail Music is to promote and support music education for all. We strive to create an inclusive environment where all students can learn and grow in their musical abilities. Our contest and honor orchestra offer opportunities for students to receive valuable feedback, meet other musicians, and perform in a professional setting. We encourage and challenge our students to pursue excellence in their music, and to become leaders in their communities through their art.

HEATHER BUSH
Heather Bush​ is the founder of OKC Summer Strings, a summer camp established  in 1997,  to provide more string summer camp opportunities for  middle school orchestra and develop leadership skills in high school string students. Over the past 26 years, thousands of students have attended this camp and its sister camps,  Spooky Strings and Snowy Strings.  She is the current Orchestra Director at The Academy of Classical Christian Studies and the violin teacher of the Casady Lower Division Violin Program plus an active private teacher, performer, and a guest clinician/adjudicator at various sites in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas .  Previously, she was the conductor of the Overture String Orchestra, part of the now disbanded Oklahoma Youth Symphonies Inc. and was an Orchestra Director for Oklahoma City Public Schools working at Jefferson Middle School (1 year), US Grant High School (2 years) and the Director of Orchestras of Classen School of Advanced Studies (11 years). Mrs. Bush received her National Board Teaching Certification while working at Classen School of Advanced Studies.

Mrs. Bush received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1995. She has been playing violin for 42 years and viola for 32 years. 

Mrs. Bush resides in Oklahoma City with her husband Brad and their children Paige, Colton, and Piper.

COURTNEY MONK

Courtney Monk is the conductor of the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra's Sinfonia and  Studio Rockestra, formerly Rockin' Strings, since 2019. She is an active private teacher, performer, Kindermusik teacher and clinician in the OKC metro. Previously, she taught for ten years as an Orchestra Director in Putnam City at Kenneth Cooper Middle School, Northridge Elementary, Tulakes Elementary, Wiley Post Elementary and Central Intermediate.

 

Mrs. Monk received her Bachelor of Music Education degree, with emphasis in conducting, from Oklahoma City University in 2005. While attending, she did a three-week concert tour across China with the orchestra, performed in the Opera & Music Theatre Orchestras and was concertmaster for several concerts with the legendary Smokey Robinson. She has been playing violin for 27 years.​

 

She currently performs with the Enid Symphony Orchestra and Sempre Strings. Mrs. Monk resides in Oklahoma City with her husband Dru and their children, Elise, Eva and Ezra.
